National Health Accounts

Health Systems 20/20 is providing technical assistance to National Health Accounts (NHA) teams in Uganda to conduct the second round of NHA as well as a first ever reproductive health (RH) subaccount analysis to include information on contraceptive commodities. Findings from this activity will be used to support the inclusion of contraceptives in country health sector and poverty alleviation strategies as well as to inform the development of sector wide approaches. There is strong government support and interest in doing the NHA and RH subaccount in Uganda as a household survey including expenditures on RH services and commodities has recently been completed. In carrying out the NHA and RH subaccount work, Health Systems 20/20 is working closely with local institutions and consultants to build capacity to institutionalize the activity within national organizations.

Health Systems Assessment

Health Systems 20/20 Health System Assessment methodology was developed to systematically and rapidly assess national health systems and provide policymakers and program managers with information on how to strengthen the system as a whole. The approach provides a comprehensive assessment of key health systems functions organized around six technical modules: governance, health financing, health service delivery, human resources, pharmaceutical management, and health information systems. The methodology has been adapted and applied at both the national and subnational levels in more than 17 countries. In the fall of 2010, Uganda will undertake an Health System Assessment.
